Recycle for me

Project

Recycling for the future

In this project I will help my son learn where money comes from by showing him the process of recycling. We will place containers in various locations to collect cans to be recycled. I will do this side by side with my son and show him the value of work and also teach him the value of recycling. He will work and collecting the cans and recycling to be able to make money to save for the future. (college, mission, etc.)

Larger Purpose

By doing this project I know that it will both help me and the community. This is because my son will learn the value of work and the fact that we should recycle more in our community to help our environment.

Goal

My goal for this whole project is to be able to help my son understand that money is not free and that working is a good thing.  I can help him have good values that will make him grow up to be a better person for our future society. I know that if I raise my son to be better than I am I will feel accomplished as a father.

Possible outcomes

1.      We will collect cans and make very little money but the value of work will still be in place.

2.      We will recycle cans and implement it into our lives and make recycling something that comes natural in our lives that just becomes normal and we end up helping the environment.

3.      The best outcome would be where my son learns that both working hard and recycling is something that is both equally important.

Deliverable:

At the end of the project I will make copies of the recycling receipts of how much we recycled and I will also make a video interview of my son telling you what he learned.

Differentiation:

I think that this project will make me stand out from other people in my major by the fact that I am trying to be a good father. Being married with kids already makes me stick out from others in my major. But the fact that I am using this as a teaching opportunity.

Costs:

4- 32 gal Brute containers at $34.80 a piece at Walmart

Work gloves- 4.50 a piece

Driving costs- estimate about $10.00

Timeline

I was thinking we would start by doing this for three months. Starting next semester or the beginning of January. I have talked to a couple of businesses that will let me put my containers in their businesses to collect cans. If we checked on them once or twice a week plus the time that we needed to drive to and from the recycling place, we can add up to forty hours really quick. We would also go on walks at local parks to check their trash bins for cans to recycle.
